Joy Saunders
For as long as I can remember, art has always been enormously important in my life.
Born in the Rhondda, I left school, married, had a family and was lucky enough to retire early and devote most of my time to painting.
I am self-taught but have always had an ambition to be an accomplished artist and in 2010 established a studio in Spain.
Encouraged by the interest shown in my work. In 2014 I opened another studio at The Model House, Llantrisant.
Even though I paint some photorealistic images, my passion has always been abstraction.
I love the freedom of capturing images using texture, shapes and colour, keeping an element of the image intact whilst trying to inject personality into each painting.
When viewed up close, some of my work looks abstract but from a distance the composition becomes clearer. Ultimately, my aim is to communicate with the viewer by encouraging a visual and emotional connection. I consider myself an ‘all round’ painter and can paint almost any style if commissioned.
